Our History
S.O.S. started back in 2000 with the adoption of two families for the holiday season and has grown each year. In 2004 we became a 501(c) (3) organization. To date, close to 300 families and well over 700 children have benefited from the caring efforts of S.O.S. and its generous supporters. Please help us to do more and continue increasing the number of families we are able to help. The primary focus of S.O.S. has always been to provide the elements of the holiday season that a family might not ordinarily be able to enjoy. S.O.S. strives to build a relationship with each family to gain better insight and understanding of individual and familial needs and interests. Each family is generally provided with several weeks’ worth of groceries and all of the goodies that make the holiday season so warm, comforting, and special. S.O.S. also provides each child in these families with age appropriate and personal gifts including clothing, educational materials, and toys. Each gift is individually wrapped and labeled by our wonderful volunteers and personally delivered at Christmas.

Spirit of Sharing – S.O.S.

We collect donations online, along with automobile donations and other assets, to help military families during the holidays throughout Southern California.

Each year, during the Holiday Season, we share the gifts of caring and giving with those that often are the most deserving, yet the most in need of that assistance, help and support–our local military community.

The S.O.S. is a 501(c) (3) organization aimed at helping to provide a Christmas to those military families in Southern California who need some assistance in bringing the magic of the season into their lives. S.O.S. has traditionally focused on military families with children and puts a special emphasis on military families that have been, or are being, deployed abroad. These families sacrifice so much for all of us throughout the year, and that burden becomes even more significant when either one or both (!) parents must leave their family to go into harms way. It is a great honor and privilege to participate in making these families’ season a little brighter and warmer.

Please assist us in our efforts to share this holiday season with our local military community and those who serve throughout the year to help protect our way of life and the freedoms we enjoy. Working together, we can bring the magic of Christmas into the households of our military families’ lives here in Southern California. Remember all donations to S.O.S. are 100% tax deductible.  SOS is 100% volunteer based and has no overhead, so 100% of all donations goes directly back into our military family funds!

SOS was recently awarded the “Best In America” award in 2010.
The Independent Charities Seal of Excellence is awarded to the members of Independent Charities of America and Local Independent Charities of America that have, upon rigorous independent review, been able to certify, document, and demonstrate on an annual basis that they meet the highest standards of public accountability, program effectiveness, and cost effectiveness. These standards include those required by the US Government for inclusion in the Combined Federal Campaign, probably the most exclusive fund drive in the world. Of the 1,000,000 charities operating in the United States today, it is estimated that fewer than 50,000, or 5 percent, meet or exceed these standards, and, of those, fewer than 2,000 have been awarded this Seal.
